How to keep your senior care company relevant

Senior Care

The eldercare industry is a multi-billion dollar market.  As an ever-increasing number of baby boomers hit retirement age yearly, the expansive senior care industry will continue to grow exponentially.  However, competition is tough and if you are a senior care provider, there are challenges you need to face in order to survive and one of them is how to remain top-of-mind with your customers.

With the influx of new players – big and small – who want a piece of the pie in an already competitive industry, senior care providers need to ensure that their marketing strategies remain effective to remain one step ahead of the competition. In order for you to grow you business, you need to build your brand, stay relevant, and be able to nurture customer loyalty. Here’s how:

  1. Tell your story.

Every brand must have a story behind it and whether you are a geriatric doctor, a physical therapist, or a CEO of a large assisted living facility, your story will help attract consumers. Your brand’s story connects you with your target demographics. Tell your story in such a way that people will understand why you are in the senior care industry. Be authentic and let them know that you are passionate about what you do.

     2. Create awareness.

No matter how noble your intentions are, if you fail to create awareness, you will not succeed. Creating awareness doesn’t mean relying on expensive mass media advertising. You can create awareness by obtaining referrals from doctors, allied medical professionals, hospitals, senior centers, and unique sources within your community.

You can also build your online presence by building a website or through online advertising and social media. However, social media should be used wisely.  It is not a mere venue for you to publish your press releases. Think of it as a medium for having real conversations with real people.

Or, if you are just starting out, you can link with websites that connect seniors with providers. For instance, our company, Senior Service Maps, maintains a searchable database of senior care providers. Seniors looking for specific eldercare services can view provider’s pages and have access to useful information, including pricing and amenities, to name a few.

  1. Deliver great results consistently.

When customers are happy with your service, they become extremely loyal to your brand and company. Therefore, you should deliver great results. If you manage an assisted living facility, keep your residents and their significant others happy by going the extra mile, even going above and beyond what they expect of you. Give them a more personalized experience; make them realize that they made the right choice by choosing you over the competition.  Find ways to help them.  If you run a residential care facility, provide information to primary caregivers. Educate them so that they are able to care for their aging loved ones effectively when it’s time. Make the extra effort to earn people’s trust and build your credibility in the process.

When you deliver consistently great service, people develop emotional attachment to your company. What happens next is organic word-of-mouth marketing – they will recommend your company to friends and family.

     4.  Cultivate business and personal relationships.

Successful marketers always say “do right by the people you interact and do business with” because they can help your business grow.  Even before social media became a thing, people expanded their business through word of mouth. Hence, always nurture personal and business relationships. Before you act, whether as a business owner or a private individual, your aim should be to build long-term goodwill. Always treat people with respect, not only your residents, patients and their families, but your employees and your suppliers as well.

     5. Hire the right people.

If you are not a one-man team, your employees are your best assets so you should take really good care of them. Educate and empower them so that they can provide better care of your customers, residents, clients, or patients. Treat them right and teach by example. When you take care of your employees, they will take good care of your business.
